Compare the outcome of the Davis Recall Petition handled by Bader & Associates with the Constitutional Convention Initiative Petitions that were circulated in California in 2010; petitions that were ultimately abandoned.
In late 2009, the organization, Repair California, launched a campaign to qualify two statewide initiatives calling for a Constitutional Convention. According to newspaper accounts, these petitions experienced a "blocking campaign" similar to, but far less funded than, the one directed against Bader & Associates and the Davis Recall Petition. Rather than qualifying for the ballot, as did the Davis Recall, the petitions stopped circulating; and the issues will not appear on the 2010 ballot. While there were other factors besides the "blocking campaign" that hindered the circulation of these petitions (such as funding issues), more funding may have been forthcoming if the blocking campaign had been countered more effectively.
The Davis Recall also initially had funding problems, and only received adequate backing to qualify for the ballot once it became obvious that the blocking campaign was going to be effectively circumvented by the newly formed organization created by Bader & Associates.
As discussed on the Davis Recall page, at no time in recent history has there been as enormous and well-funded a blocking campaign as the one that was unsuccessfully used against Bader & Associates and the Davis Recall.
Similar circumstances, different outcomes.
